Intensive Behaviour Change Program Victoria

If you've been directed by the court or VicRoads to complete an intensive drink driving course or an intensive drug driving course, you're in the right place.
At Drink Drive Victoria, we run the VicRoads Intensive Drink and Drug Driver Program with professionalism, patience, and genuine care for every participant. We understand this is a challenging time, and we're here to help you move through it with the support and information you need.
Who Is This Program For?
The intensive drink and drug driver program is a mandatory requirement for drivers who fall into one of the following categories:
-
Repeat drink or drug driving offenders
-
First-time drink drivers recorded with a BAC of 0.150 gm/100mls or above
-
Drivers who refused to provide a breath or drug sample
-
Drivers charged with other serious driving offences involving alcohol or drugs
If your offence was less serious and this is your first drink driving charge, you may be eligible for the standard VicRoads safe driving program or the VicRoads drug driver program instead. Not sure which program applies to you? Get in touch and we'll point you in the right direction.

What Does the Program Include?
The VicRoads intensive drink and drug driver program is a structured, evidence-based group program totalling 10 hours of content, delivered across three weekly sessions (3 hours per session) plus one individual one-on-one session of 1 hour. Participant handbooks are provided, so all you need to bring is your ID.
Sessions are facilitated by qualified drug and alcohol professionals and cover topics including:
-
Understanding the impact of alcohol and drugs on driving and decision-making
-
Exploring patterns of behaviour and what led to the offence
-
Identifying strategies to reduce risk and prevent reoffending
-
Building personal goals and accountability
The program fulfils the VicRoads requirement for the intensive behaviour change program as part of the licence reinstatement process.
How Does It Help?
This program is designed to create genuine insight and lasting change. Our facilitators create a safe, non-judgemental space where you can honestly reflect on what happened and what comes next.
Many participants leave with a clearer understanding of their relationship with alcohol or drugs and practical tools to make safer choices going forward. Completing the program is also a key step toward regaining your independence and getting back behind the wheel.

Online or In-Person Attendance?
This program must be completed in person. Intensive drink driving courses online or intensive drug driving courses online are only available in very specific, approved circumstances. It is not a standard option.
Drink Drive Victoria offers sessions across Melbourne and major regional Victorian cities, so there's likely a location close to you.

Next Steps to Getting Your Licence Back
Completing the intensive behaviour change program is one piece of the puzzle. Depending on your situation, you may also need to:
-
Apply for a licence eligibility order through the court
-
Complete a Stage 2 Pre-Interlock Removal Group before having your alcohol interlock removed
-
Apply for an alcohol interlock exemption if eligible
Our team can help you understand which steps apply to your specific circumstances. For an overview of all available VicRoads behaviour change program options, visit our services page.
